Hospital Bed Rental vs. Buying for Home Use

Renting suits a defined, short period — recovery from surgery, a few weeks of care, a visiting relative. Buying suits an open-ended need, a specific feature (a very low platform, tilt, a wide size, a particular mattress) or a bed that has to look like part of the bedroom.

What a rental gets you

Our fully electric hospital bed rental is a standard fully electric bed delivered and collected by us; pricing and terms are quoted by phone at (803) 926-1493 because they depend on the rental length and delivery area. Rentals are a separate product and are not part of the purchase collection.

What buying gets you

• A bed built to your order: the iCare IC222 (three functions, 390 lb), the iCare IC333 (four functions with Trendelenburg, 9 in low height, up to 660 lb) or the Flexabed Hi-Low SL (residential adjustable bed with powered height, six mattress choices, Twin to Split King).
• Manufacturer warranties that stay with the bed: 5-year (IC222) or 10-year (IC333) frame warranties with 2-year component coverage, or Flexabed's transferable Limited Lifetime Warranty.
• Configuration: sizes, mattresses, rails, wired or wireless control and delivery services chosen once, for the long term.

How to decide

1. Estimate the period of need. Under about three months, a rental usually costs less and involves no resale later.
2. List the features that matter — low height, tilt, size, capacity, appearance. Rentals are standard beds; purchases can be specified.
3. Check payment: we sell direct without insurance paperwork; financing is available on purchases over $500. If you plan to claim from an insurer yourself, ask them first what they require.

Questions to settle before you choose

• How long, honestly? Recoveries often run longer than planned; a rental that stretches past a few months can cost more than the bed it replaces.
• Who will set it up? Ask whether delivery includes assembly and removal, and whether the mattress and rails are included — rental beds are standard configurations, purchased beds are built to your order.
• What does the person actually need? A very low platform (the IC333 goes to 9 in floor to platform), tilt, a wider size or a specific mattress are reasons to buy; a standard bed for six weeks is a reason to rent.
• What happens afterwards? A purchased bed keeps its manufacturer warranty (Flexabed's is transferable) and can be sold on or passed to a relative; a rental simply goes back.
