A rollator (also called a rollator walkerrolling walker, or wheeled walker) is a mobility aid designed to help people with difficulty walking maintain balance, stability, and endurance.

It typically features:

  • A sturdy frame
  • 3 or 4 wheels (usually 4, with the front wheels swiveling for easier turning)
  • Ergonomic handlebars (often adjustable in height) for gripping
  • Hand-operated brakes (like bicycle brakes) to control speed and lock the wheels when stopped
  • A built-in seat (often padded) so the user can sit and rest when needed
  • Frequently, a storage pouch, basket, or bag is used underneath for carrying items like groceries, a purse, or personal belongings
  • Two different folding designs: front-to-back or right-to-left.

A standard walker (sometimes called a "non-wheeled walker" or "pick-up walker") is a simpler, lighter frame with four rubber-tipped legs (no wheels or only two front wheels in some "rolling walker" variants). You must lift and place it forward with each step, which provides more weight-bearing support but requires more arm strength and coordination.
