Powered beds for care at home — the three we sell

Every bed in this collection raises and lowers the whole sleeping surface (hi-lo), raises the head and bends the knees or foot section from a hand control, and runs on a home outlet with battery or emergency backup. They differ in how low they go, how they tilt, how much they carry per size, and how much they look like furniture.

  • iCare IC222 Homecare Bed — three functions (head lift 62°, knee break 42°, hi-lo 12–24 in floor to platform), 390 lb safe working load including the Icare mattress, Twin XL or a Dual King pair, 5-year frame warranty.
  • iCare IC333 Premium Homecare Bed — four functions including 17° Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg, 9–26 in floor to platform, 440 lb (Twin XL) or 660 lb (Full XL, Queen), eight casters, 10-year frame warranty.
  • Flexabed Hi-Low SL Adjustable Bed — a hand-built residential adjustable bed with 7.5 in of powered height, independent head and foot, wired or wireless remote, six mattress constructions, Twin to Split King, 400 lb per occupant.

Which homecare bed fits your needs?

Manufacturer-supported differences only — not medical advice. If a clinician has specified a feature, bring that to us.

Bed choice for a medical condition is a decision for the user's clinician; we describe what each bed does, not what it treats.

Buying guide

Homecare bed vs. standard adjustable bed

A standard adjustable bed only articulates: the head and foot sections move, but the mattress stays at one height. A homecare (hi-lo) bed also raises and lowers the whole platform. That single difference is what makes transfers, dressing and caregiving easier: low for getting in and out, high so a helper does not bend. All three beds here are hi-lo beds; the iCare beds are built like clinical homecare beds (metal-mesh platform, casters, Trendelenburg on the IC333), while the Flexabed Hi-Low SL is a residential adjustable bed that adds powered height.

Height adjustment — read the measurement basis

Manufacturers measure height differently, so we always say what a figure measures. Icare quotes floor to top of the mattress platform: 12–24 in on the IC222 and 9–26 in on the IC333; the mattress you choose adds its own thickness. Flexabed quotes the top of the foundation — 11–18.5 in on leg pads or 13.25–20.75 in on casters — and separately the sleeping height with each mattress type (for example 16.5–24 in with the low-profile mattress on leg pads). A lower minimum height reduces fall height; a higher maximum suits a caregiver working at the bedside.

Sizes and capacities

  • iCare IC222: Twin XL (80 × 36 in sleep surface), or a Dual King made of two Twin XL beds; 390 lb per bed including the Icare mattress.
  • iCare IC333: Twin XL 440 lb; Full XL and Queen 660 lb; Dual King is two Twin XL beds at 440 lb each. Capacity follows the size you choose.
  • Flexabed Hi-Low SL: Twin, Full, Queen, Split King; 80 in long as standard, 84 in optional; 400 lb per occupant and 700 lb total in a Split King.

Battery backup

Both iCare beds include an external rechargeable battery backup that takes over automatically in an outage. The Flexabed Hi-Low SL lowers on two 9-volt batteries in a power failure; a battery backup pack is a factory option we can quote by phone.

Partners and couples

All three beds can be set up for two people with independent controls: the iCare Dual King options pair two Twin XL beds with no gap, and the Flexabed Split King pairs two twin bases. Each side keeps its own capacity rating.

How the three beds differ

Choose the IC222 for straightforward three-function care in a Twin XL footprint. Choose the IC333 when you need the lowest platform, Trendelenburg tilt, wider sizes or the 660 lb rating. Choose the Flexabed Hi-Low SL when the bedroom look, mattress choice, Twin-to-Split-King sizing and a wired or wireless remote matter most, and tilt or a mesh platform do not. Our comparison table above lists every manufacturer figure side by side.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a homecare bed and a hospital bed?
A homecare bed brings the essentials of a hospital bed home: powered head and knee positioning, hi-lo height and battery backup, in a bed with upholstered ends and a home-sized footprint. The iCare beds here are homecare beds; the Flexabed Hi-Low SL is a residential adjustable bed with powered height that Flexabed describes as an alternative to a hospital bed, not a replacement for one.
Which bed goes lowest?
The iCare IC333 at 9 in from the floor to the top of the mattress platform, then the Flexabed Hi-Low SL foundation at 11 in on leg pads, then the iCare IC222 at 12 in. Add your mattress thickness to get the sleeping height.
Which bed tilts (Trendelenburg)?
Only the iCare IC333: 17° Trendelenburg and 17° reverse Trendelenburg. The IC222 and the Flexabed Hi-Low SL do not tilt.
Do these beds come with a mattress?
The Flexabed Hi-Low SL is configured with one of six Flexabed mattress constructions in the product's Customize & Buy panel. The iCare beds are designed for Icare mattresses; tell us which one you want when you order and we will confirm it on your quote.
Can I rent instead of buying?
Yes. Our fully electric hospital bed rental is a separate product for short-term needs — see the hospital bed rentals collection. The three beds on this page are for purchase.
Do you deliver and set up?
Freight delivery is free to the curb in the continental US; white-glove delivery and setup, threshold delivery and removal of an existing bed are offered as options on the Flexabed configurator, and we can arrange in-home setup for the iCare beds by phone.
Do you bill Medicare or insurance for these beds?
No. Affordable Medical USA sells these beds directly to you without insurance paperwork, so there is no prescription requirement or coverage decision to wait on; financing through Bread Pay is available on orders over $500. If you plan to seek reimbursement yourself, ask your insurer what documentation they require before you order.
