It has been four years since Golden Technologies introduced the GB-120 CarryOn scooter and it has totally changed the mobility landscape for thousands of people. Prior to the CarryOn, travel scooters were prohibitively heavy, too bulky, or required disassembly that just wasn’t practical for many. Since the CarryOn’s introduction a lot has changed. Forbes Magazine named the GB-120 CarryOn as “the Best Mobility Scooter of 2022.

The GB-120 is the ‘Best Overall’ scooter that we sell here at Affordable Medical Equipment. There are better scooters for different tasks mind you. Best Overall means that accounting for diverse needs, individual sizes, durability, features, accessibility, and uses, the GB-120 CarryOn ranks #1. But if you spend a lot of time on lawns, hills, different types of terrain, or have acreage – something else might be better. This might call for something other than the GB-120. Make no mistake about it though, the number one feature has been the ease of getting the scooter in and out of vehicles. The CarryOn has opened so many doors for people that otherwise would not have the ability to get a scooter in and out of a vehicle without assistance.

We have 149 positive reviews you can check out on our website, but we wanted to highlight some of the special notes here –

“Light weight, convenient, portable, doesn’t take up space in a vehicle, home or apartment. Fashionable and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.” – Harry D.

“Fast enough to keep up with my grandkids. Easy to load into my vehicle.” - Barbara M. “A compact mobility device, it is very easy for one person to put in and out of the car. I love the ability to charge the battery away from the scooter.” – Thomas D. “Bought my dad one. This will be the 2nd purchase from this company… I am so happy to deal with a family company that actually cares.” - Helen J.

We knew early on in our CarryOn experience we had something very special. The CarryOn was going to be a game changer. Immediately we started endeavoring how we could add value, better the experience, make purchasing easier. Golden Technologies has pursued a great deal of inventiveness as well – adding perks, additional accessories, and upgraded products.

The GB-120 comes standard with a 24V, 15 aH battery which is perfect for long range travel (up to 18 miles). Long range, lightweight foldable, and 12” folded height for undercarriage storage on cruise ships has proven to be an unmatchable success. But what about air travel? Air travel requires lithium-ion batteries to have a smaller wattage than the long range 360WH battery. The TSA approved battery is 6.5aH and 156 WH. Those numbers meet TSA guidelines but at a cost – the range is diminished to about 7.5 miles. Wanting to add value we introduced the GB120-TSA package, making it easy and affordable to get the CarryOn for local and travel use. The package includes two TSA batteries and two fireproof travel bags. We have sold as many of the TSA packages as the standard scooter package ($2,019). We have also plunged into the color well and now offer custom color shrouds like pink, black, purple, and green. We have done some All-American schemes and even a Clemson University scooter for an incredibly special customer.

The GB-120 CarryOn is such a cool scooter, but how do you store it? How do you get it out of the way, so no one steps or trips on it? That is a big concern – especially for seniors living in tighter quarters. Seemed logical to us that to both increase safety and create better storage it needed a kickstand. So, we built a kickstand! Then we offered it as a value priced add-on when you purchase a new GB-120! Close to 50% of people that order online will add a kickstand to their order. The value is too good not to; and we assemble before we ship so your scooter is ready to go when you get it. Of course, you can always order after the fact as well and we include a YouTube tutorial that makes installation quick and easy.

As time passed, we noticed a number of people having difficulty with both removing the battery and operating the tiller trigger to move the tiller. The battery release button is down on the deck and sometimes one has to press it forcefully to get the battery to release. The trigger to free the tiller is short, making it sometimes difficult to exert the torque necessary to let the tiller loose. Our R&D team went to work to develop tools that would solve both these challenges.

Poof! Two new tools to make the GB-120 CarryOn an even better experience. A release button that sits atop the manufacturers release button that allows the individual to use their foot to discharge the battery. Installs in seconds and takes the toil out of battery removal. The other new tool is a trigger release extender that makes discharging the tiller spring so much easier. This allows for easier laying down and pulling up of the tiller.

In 2022, airlines carried 741,582 wheelchairs and scooters, and there were 11,389 incidents of damage. As a nationally recognized service shop, we have seen dozens of scooters come in that an airline didn’t take particularly diligent care of while in their care. Since the GB-120 CarryOn is the best travel scooter of all time, Golden wanted to take steps to protect the scooter as much as possible on airline travel. The result is an innovative CarryOn bag that conforms to the shape of the scooter, is easy to use, has a separate bag for the seat and has FRAGILE inscribed all over it. The CarryOn bag is designed to be durable while at the same time useful. As you can see in the following video, anti-tip wheels are exposed to allow for easy pulling, and you have access to the side handles as well if you want to carry it or put it on a luggage dolly. Best of all, Golden made it affordable at only $95, a cheap price to pay for travel peace of mind.

In our hundreds (maybe thousands?) of experiences with Golden’s GB-120 CarryOn we have only two things on our wish list. It would be really nice to have a swivel seat. Though no one complains about the seat not swiveling we can see how it would make accessing and exiting the scooter a smoother and easier experience. The seat itself is actually incredibly good. Probably 98% of our customers purchasing and renting scooters have found the seat to be comfortable for extended periods of time. As the scooter can support up to 300 pounds, we can just see how a swivel would be a sweet touch. The other sweet spot would be for a scooter similar in size, portability and comfort that would accommodate those near or over 300 pounds.

Wouldn’t it be nice if Golden were to introduce a GB-120 that would support 400 pounds? It would of course have a larger seat with stronger armrests. The seat would swivel. We would think the tires would be larger, like 7” in the front and 9” in the rear. (The GB-120 has 6” and 7” wheels today) It would have a kickstand for the storage and safety reasons; similar to the one we designed. It would maintain the no-assembly aspect of the original CarryOn. Now that would be the killer CarryOn scooter!! Is it a pipe dream or is it possible something like this could be coming from Golden Tech? We will have to wait and see.

It has been a joy offering the GB-120 CarryOn scooter from Golden Technologies. Our scooters have been on hundreds of cruises including the Rhine River, the Caribbean, Alaska, and the Mediterranean. We have a client that wanted to go to his favorite mountain top one more time, but he couldn’t make the hike anymore. A GB-120 made that dream a reality. The CarryOn has been to the Mojave Desert and the streets of New York City. Pigeon Forge, Dollywood and Disney are frequent destinations. The cobblestone streets of Charleston and Savannah have done nothing to slow down this little beast of a scooter. CarryOn has been a favorite for car shows, large and small. We have shipped more GB120’s to Florida and California than anywhere, but Texas ranks right up there also. We have shipped to Maine, and we have shipped to Alaska.
