A rollator (also called a rollator walker, rolling walker, or wheeled walker) is a mobility aid designed to help people with difficulty walking maintain balance, stability, and endurance.
It typically features:
- A sturdy frame
- 3 or 4 wheels (usually 4, with the front wheels swiveling for easier turning)
- Ergonomic handlebars (often adjustable in height) for gripping
- Hand-operated brakes (like bicycle brakes) to control speed and lock the wheels when stopped
- A built-in seat (often padded) so the user can sit and rest when needed
- Frequently, a storage pouch, basket, or bag is used underneath for carrying items like groceries, a purse, or personal belongings
- Two different folding designs: front-to-back or right-to-left.
A standard walker (sometimes called a "non-wheeled walker" or "pick-up walker") is a simpler, lighter frame with four rubber-tipped legs (no wheels or only two front wheels in some "rolling walker" variants). You must lift and place it forward with each step, which provides more weight-bearing support but requires more arm strength and coordination.

What is the difference between a walker and a rollator?
A walker is a lightweight frame you lift or push a step at a time, with no wheels or two small front wheels; it gives the most support. A rollator has three or four wheels, hand brakes and usually a seat, so it rolls with you and lets you sit down to rest.
Which rollator is best for outdoor use?
Choose larger wheels. The Drive AeroCarbon and AeroWalk use 9.5 to 10 in. front wheels with 8 in. rear wheels, which roll over thresholds, pavement joints and gravel more easily than the 6 in. wheels on compact indoor models.
How much weight can a walker or rollator hold?
Standard rollators in this collection are rated for 250 to 350 lb, heavy-duty rollators for 450 lb, and bariatric folding walkers for 500 to 600 lb. The capacity is printed on every product page; choose a model rated above the rider's weight.
How do I choose the right height?
Stand upright in your usual shoes with your arms relaxed; the handles should reach your wrist crease. Many products list a user-height range, and the Drive AeroWalk is sold in Standard (about 5 ft to 5 ft 8 in.) and Tall (5 ft 8 in. to 6 ft 2 in.) sizes.
Will a rollator fit in my car?
Most fold sideways to fit a trunk or back footwell. The lightest models here weigh 11.5 to 15 lb (AeroCarbon, AeroWalk, Stander Elite Travel, EZ Fold-n-Go); the EZ Fold-n-Go folds to roughly 10 by 11 in.
