Multiple Lifting Heights – Up to 14 Feet

One of the biggest advantages of the Highlander II series is the wide range of available lifting heights.

Model Maximum Lifting Height
VPL400 Up to 53"
VPL600 Up to 77"
VPL800 Up to 101"
VPL1000 Up to 125"
VPL1200 Up to 149"
VPL1400 Up to 171"

This allows the Highlander II to handle everything from a few steps leading to a porch to elevation changes of more than 14 feet.

A Space-Saving Alternative to a Wheelchair Ramp

A wheelchair ramp can take up considerably more space than many homeowners expect.

As Harmar explains in its Highlander II brochure, a ramp may require approximately 1 foot of ramp for every 1 inch of rise. That means a 24-inch elevation change could require approximately 24 feet of ramping.

The Highlander II Vertical Platform Lift provides another option by moving the user vertically, making it especially useful where yard, driveway, garage, or walkway space is limited.

Common applications include:

  • Front and back porches
  • Decks
  • Garage entrances
  • Raised home entrances
  • Multi-level homes
  • Commercial entrances
  • Elevation changes between floors

750 lb Weight Capacity

The Highlander II has a 750 lb lifting capacity, providing room for the combined weight of the user and many common mobility devices.

Harmar offers five platform sizes, allowing the lift to accommodate a variety of manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and—in appropriate configurations—the user and caregiver.

Five Platform Sizes

Choosing the proper platform size is important, particularly for larger power chairs and scooters.

Clear Platform Size Guard Panel
36" x 48" 36"
36" x 54" 42"
36" x 60" 42"
42" x 54" 42"
42" x 60" 42"

The best platform size will depend on the dimensions and turning requirements of the mobility device being used.

SteadyDrive – Smooth & Stable Operation

The Highlander II features Harmar's SteadyDrive system, which uses a high-lead ACME screw to help provide a smooth, quiet, and stable ride.

According to Harmar, the screw rotates up to 75% slower than competing designs, helping reduce vibration. A sealed gearbox also replaces traditional pulley systems, which may help reduce maintenance requirements.

Guardian Diagnostic System

The Guardian System uses four bright, high-contrast LED indicators to provide continuous information about the lift.

The system monitors critical functions and can provide feedback about the lift's operating status, battery condition, and maintenance needs, making it easier for the owner or service technician to understand what is happening with the VPL.

Easy-to-Use Big Blue Paddle

Instead of relying on small buttons that may be difficult for some users to see or operate, the Highlander II uses Harmar's Big Blue Paddle.

The oversized 4" x 5" high-contrast ergonomic rocker control provides simple up-and-down operation. The user presses and holds the appropriate direction throughout travel.

Optional ReadyUPS Battery Backup

For additional peace of mind during a power outage, the Highlander II can be equipped with Harmar's optional ReadyUPS battery backup system.

If household power is lost, the UPS automatically activates and can provide a minimum of five complete up-and-down cycles, depending on battery condition and charge level.

Designed for Outdoor Use

The Highlander II is built for demanding accessibility applications and can be configured for outdoor installation.

The lift features a Seal-Kor powder-coated finish and stainless steel hardware, helping protect the unit in exterior environments.

This makes it a strong choice for wheelchair access to outdoor porches, decks, and entrances.

Built-In Safety Features

The Highlander II incorporates multiple safety features, including:

  • Safety pan beneath the platform
  • Four LED status indicators
  • Emergency stop button on the platform
  • Overspeed brake
  • Door and gate interlocks
  • Manual lowering tool

The system is also ETL listed and rated for both residential and commercial applications.
