Custom Designed for Your Staircase

The biggest difference between the Harmar Helix and a traditional straight stair lift is the rail.

Every curved staircase is different. The Helix is measured using a calibrated camera system and then manufactured with a custom precision-bent steel rail designed specifically for the staircase.

This allows the lift to navigate configurations that may include:

  • 90° turns
  • 180° turns
  • Spiral staircases
  • Sweeping curves
  • Intermediate landings
  • Parking locations
  • Drop noses
  • Top overruns

Harmar offers several Helix configurations to accommodate these different staircase designs.

Tight Curves & Space-Saving Design

A curved stair lift needs to follow the staircase closely without unnecessarily reducing the amount of usable space.

The Helix features a narrow-profile rail that mounts closer to the wall, allowing it to follow tighter bends and radius curves. This helps preserve more room on the staircase for other family members while providing the rider with a smooth path around turns.

When folded, the Helix measures approximately 16 inches from the wall.

Comfortable 19" Wide Seat

The Helix includes a generous 19" wide x 15" deep seat.

The updated seat cushion is designed to allow the rider to sit farther back, while the flat seat bottom can make transferring on and off the stair lift easier.

A retractable seat belt and non-skid footrest provide additional security during the ride.

Built-In Safety Features

The Harmar Helix incorporates multiple safety systems, including:

  • Direction limit switches
  • Final limit switch
  • Footrest obstruction sensors
  • Chassis obstruction sensors
  • Seat swivel interlock
  • Constant-pressure controls
  • Retractable seat belt
  • Overspeed brake

These features are designed to provide added protection throughout the stair lift's travel path.

Indoor or Outdoor Installation

The Helix isn't limited to indoor staircases.

An optional outdoor package is available for curved exterior stairways, making the Helix an option when an outdoor staircase has turns or curves that prevent the use of a standard straight outdoor stair lift.

Why Choose the Harmar Helix?

The Helix is designed for situations where an off-the-shelf straight stair lift simply won't work.

Its custom-built rail follows the actual shape of your staircase, allowing the lift to navigate turns, curves, landings, and more complicated stair configurations while maintaining a relatively narrow profile.

For homeowners who want to remain in their homes but have difficulty safely navigating a curved staircase, the Harmar Helix provides a customized accessibility solution without requiring major structural changes.

Professional Measurement & Installation Required

Because every Helix Curved Stair Lift is custom-manufactured, accurate measurements are extremely important.

Your staircase must be professionally evaluated and measured before the lift can be ordered. The final configuration and price will depend on factors such as:

  • Staircase length
  • Number and degree of turns
  • Intermediate landings
  • Staircase incline
  • Starting and stopping locations
  • Parking requirements
  • Indoor or outdoor installation
  • Additional rail requirements

Our mobility experts can help determine the proper Helix configuration and walk you through the measurement, ordering, and installation process.
