If you are new to the world of mobility assist devices, you have a lot of choices; and that’s a good thing! It wasn’t that long ago that people didn’t have a choice – it was a wheelchair or nothing. But thanks to demand (an aging population) and technological advances we have tons of choices today.

When people come to our store for the first time, we typically see one of two scenes unfold. Maybe they’ve done some research and kind of know where to start.  Other times they’re clueless where to start – and that’s ok. That’s why we’re here. The type of mobility aid that’s best for you boils down to three questions:

  • How mobile are you and how much assistance do you need?
  • Is your domicile mobility friendly? (Do you live at home or assisted living?)
  • What is your budget?

Let ‘s Review the Options

When it comes to buying or renting mobility equipment there are lots of options but we’ll limit our discussion here to the three most prominent - walkers/rollators, wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Amongst all three there is a plethora of manufacturers, sizes and costs.

One of the greatest strengths of Affordable Medical is using our knowledge, experience and time to help you sort through decisions. Time and again our customers have shared their sentiments regarding our customer service:

“The service was fantastic!  I would highly recommend.”  Betsy S.

“Amazing customer service!”  Conner J.

“An amazing experience with good people willing to help with anything you need.”  Eric W.

“Knowledgeable, friendly and trustworthy staff.”  Cale P.

So, with this mind, let’s look at the suitability of the mobility aids offered at Affordable Medical Equipment-

For many, this is the first option to consider. Walkers and rollators are basic mobility aids that are relatively inexpensive and easy to use. A walker has four legs and usually two wheels on the front. Because they fold up and are very light, they fit anywhere. A rollator, on the other hand, is a walker with four wheels and has a seat. They’re heavier and cost a little more but provide a spot to rest when you get tired from walking. They have handbrakes that, like bike brakes, can stop you immediately or lock as you would before sitting down. Despite their lightweight features, these options do require reasonable upper body strength to operate effectively.

Wheelchairs remain one of the most popular and conventional forms of disability equipment. Wheelchairs provide the benefits of years of development and refinement. Wheelchairs are flexible and versatile and there are options for both indoor and outdoor use. There are basic wheelchairs and wheelchairs that are quite rich in features. Prices can range from a couple of hundred to thousands of dollars. At Affordable Medical we carry standard wheelchairs by Everest & Jennings, and more comfortable and user-friendly wheelchairs from Strongback and Karman. We also carry reclining wheelchairs.

The range of wheelchair options available at Affordable Medical Equipment also include the option of electric power wheelchairs, which offer complete independence. Our favorite is the Golden Envy. Customer Deborah T. said her Envy was perfect because of “the smaller size and zero turn radius”.

Mobility Scooters

Finally, mobility scooters are a great choice for those seeking an independent lifestyle. This option of mobility equipment offers a reliable, safe and fulfilling advantage to other options. Like all options, one can choose a simple and smaller scooter, a mid-range scooter or a long-range scooter. We even have scooters for the BIG individual. We have traditional models that disassemble and the more recently developed folding’ scooters. Folding, in this sense, refers to folding down to a suitcase size. We have a variety of these to choose from as well. There’s a lot of different options to choose from but we will be with you every step of the way to help you find what will work best for you.

At Affordable Medical Equipment we strive to offer the best in mobility equipment, at the very lowest price available, with unsurpassed customer service. Come by and see us today or visit us at Affordablemedicalusa.com.
