As we become older sometimes our mobility decreases, making getting about a challenge. Aside from becoming older, there are a slew of additional reasons that might contribute to a loss of mobility, such as accidents or health issues. Many items are available to assist those with reduced mobility in moving about freely and independently.

Mobility aids are helpful tools that allow seniors, wounded persons, or those with reduced mobility due to various health concerns to continue their daily routines without relying on others. Affordable Medical Equipment offers a variety of medical equipment that assists in accomplishing daily errands without assistance. The social and mental health advantages to this are huge. Numerous studies have demonstrated as much but our own first-hand experiences speak to the impacts as well. We have watched hundreds of lives changed and sometimes it can be the smallest of mobility aids that will make the difference. So, buying or renting from us only makes sense. We have put up a selection of mobility aids that are tailored to your specific needs. Wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs, stairlifts, walkers, ramps, lifts, scooters, rollators, reclining lift chairs and other mobility aids are among the items we rent and sell every day.

WHEN SHOULD MOBILITY AIDS BE USED?

People with temporary or chronic impairments that impede their movement, balance, or weight-bearing might benefit from mobility assistance. Some mobility aids, such as walkers, wheelchairs, and rollators, may be used by persons with adequate upper body strength and coordination. Other aids, such as stairlifts or ramps, are better suited for those who require assistance moving around.

The following are some instances of circumstances when our mobility aids are beneficial:

  • Loss of limb function owing to an accident or a long-term condition
  • Lower-body ailment
  • Surgery on the knee, ankle, foot, and back
  • Lower-extremity fractures
  • ACL damage or tear
  • Impaired equilibrium
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Impaired walking owing to a brain injury or stroke

Our collections of medical equipment are most often used by the elderly and handicapped, but many of our customers are recuperating from surgery or suffering from short-term injuries or illnesses.

Unwinding at Home

Cushion

It is tempting to assume that simply because someone lives at home, they do not need as much support. Modern houses and lifestyles, on the other hand, are not often planned with restricted mobility in mind, which may make even the most peaceful activities like watching TV or going to bed taxing. Fortunately, there are a plethora of ingenious technologies that may make life simpler in ways you never imagined.

To begin, there are a variety of cushions, pillows, and support devices made expressly for those with restricted mobility to give comfort and support that you can buy from Affordable Medical Equipment. These cushions, which are usually constructed of memory foam, are very pleasant while also boosting blood circulation, reducing pain and pressure, and providing support for the spine and legs. Some units include an adjustable height, which is particularly useful for those who are bedridden yet want the flexibility to sit up and eat, watch television, and speak with loved ones.

Perching stools, which are tall, slightly slanted seats that enable whoever uses them to comfortably perch (thus the name), in a half-sitting, half-standing posture, may also be seen in the house of someone with restricted mobility. These are wonderful for those who want or need to walk about more, or who need to stay standing to help better their conditions but find that standing for too long causes discomfort.

Maintaining a Clean and Hygienic Environment

Shower Seats

Many people who have long lived with restricted mobility will tell you that getting a bath is one of the most difficult tasks to conquer. Getting into the bath takes too much dexterity, standing in the shower is too painful, and sponge baths do not actually leave you feeling 'fresh and squeaky clean.' That is why shower seats are so useful. Allowing someone with restricted mobility to sit in the shower allows them to enjoy some peace and quiet while washing at their own speed. Inflatable basins are also good options for washing someone's hair correctly from the comfort of their bed or chair by a loved one or nurse. Affordable Medical Equipment has a wide selection of bath and shower chair options to fit anyone’s needs.

Keeping in Shape

Just because someone's movement is restricted does not imply that being active and healthy is no longer a priority. Exercise, in fact, is even more important for maintaining blood circulation and keeping muscles strong that are not being utilized. Training machines for persons with restricted mobility are intended to be used while seated and can be used to exercise both the upper and lower body, enabling the user to obtain as much exercise as they can and need. These do not have to be expensive items either. You might be surprised at some of the simple tools we have in our store that supplement a good exercise routine.

MOBILITY AID TYPES

We provide a variety of mobility aids to meet a variety of requirements. Wheelchairs, ramps, walkers, rollators, stairlifts, and power scooters are among them. Each aid has its own set of advantages and may assist the user in a variety of ways.

A. WHEELCHAIRS

A wheelchair is a chair with big wheels that allows the older, impaired, or injured to move about. This form of mobility assistance is appropriate for persons who cannot or should not put weight on their lower limbs. It is better suited than walkers for those who need to go long distances. We offer different sorts of wheelchairs:

  1. Manual/Standard Wheelchairs:

Standard Wheelchairs

The most basic sort of wheelchair is the standard wheelchair, which comes with the ability to fold when not in use or when traveling. If the user has adequate upper body strength, this mobility equipment can be used by themselves, but it can also be utilized by individuals who need help.

Take, for example, the Strongback Ultra-Light Wheelchair.

The Ergo Lite Ergonomic Transport Chair is an example of a superior transport chair.

2. Electric/Power Wheelchairs:

Power Wheelchair

Mobility power chairs are often confused with mobility scooters; however, they are really motorized wheelchairs. When it comes to moving fast and smoothly, power wheelchairs provide greater flexibility and convenience. They may not be as adaptable as manual wheelchairs, but they may give much-needed support when needed and to a level that a manual wheelchair cannot. Electric wheelchairs are battery-powered and may aid the user in moving about without the need for assistance. This sort of wheelchair is ideal for long journeys since it removes the need for extra effort to maneuver the chair.

The Deluxe Ez-Go Travel Power Chair is one example of a power wheelchair.

Another example (and one of this author’s favorites!) is the Merits Vision Sport Mid-Wheel Drive power wheelchair.

B. STAIRLIFTS

Stairlifts

People utilize stairlifts to go up and down the steps. This stair mobility assistance is ideal for those who have reduced movement due to aging, accidents, arthritis, and other factors. It has a broad seat to make the user's experience more pleasant. Stairlifts are battery-operated and have a seat belt for the user's safety.

One example of a stairlift system is the Handicare 1100 Straight Stairlift, for example.

Another example of a great stairlift is the Pilot Stairlift system

C. ROLLATORS AND WALKERS

Rollators And Walkers

Walkers feature four legs and assist the user to maintain balance while walking by providing stability and support. For transport, a walker must be lifted in and out of the vehicle, therefore is best suited for persons who have the arm strength to lift it. This walking aid is intended to help users feel more self-assured and independent. These are quite popular among residents of residential care facilities and home users. One such walker and a very popular one is the three-wheeled walker.

Walkers having wheels at the end of each leg and a seat are known as rollators. Rollators are easier to maneuver than standard walkers since they have four wheels. Rollators like the Lumex Set-n-Go have four wheels, handlebars, a braking system, a storage bag, and a seat. Rollators, unlike many walkers, do not need lifting to move forward, thus enabling users to move much easier. The seat allows the user to rest if necessary, and it is very dependable, adaptable, and long-lasting.

D. POWER MOBILITY SCOOTERS

Power Mobility Scooters

People with impairments, accidents, or health concerns may use power mobility scooters to make traveling simpler. This is a motorized mobility device that instills confidence and independence in its users. For people who cannot walk long distances or at all, electric mobility scooters are a terrific method to move about. They provide you with greater flexibility, comfort, and security when you are doing things and going places. But most of all they provide people with freedom!!  One of the newer scooters in our line-up is the Afiscooter C4.

Undoubtedly our favorite scooter at the moment, and possibly all time, is the Carry-On Scooter from Golden Technologies.  The Golden Carry-On is great for around town or around the country. It is super light, travels long distances and is easily transportable.

HOW DO YOU MAKE MY DECISION?
