When purchasing any hitch-mounted lift, you need to know what your vehicle can support with tongue weight. Tounge weight is usually 10% of the vehicle's actual towing weight. You will also need to know the actual weight of the power chair you will be carrying on the lift. Make sure you do not exceed your vehicle's tongue weight, or this lift will not be a good purchase for your car.  Ensure you have a Class 3 hitch and light hook-up for the puddle light to work.  If you need access to the rear of your vehicle, you will need a swingaway to allow for full access.  Ensure you know the hitch height to determine if you need a Universal drop hitch.  If your hitch height is 16" or below, you will be OK with the standard hitch with the lift.  It is best to give us a call at 803-926-2224 or email Chris.mobilitysolutions@gmail.com

Hitch-mounted lifts are a great solution for power chair transportation and are much easier to use than manual racks on the back of your vehicle.  Inside lifts are an excellent solution for some chairs and cars, but they can be very tight when loading into the back; you will also need to remove the seat sometimes, and if someone has a balance issue, it can be an issue.  That's why hitch-mounted lifts can be a better option.  Harmar AL500 Hitch mounted lift can be an issue because of your vehicle and what it can hold.  Also, if you have issues with your hands, the Q' Straint retractors might be an issue.  Also, your power chair is open to the elements of Mother Nature.  

Swing - Away option is needed to access rear of vehicle.  If you have a SUV, Van or Truck and need full access to the rear of the vechile you will need the swingaway.  Harmar now offers back up camera made for their lifts and couple options to choose from.
